Overlapping Spectrums: Gender Creativity and Autism

  • The Ability Hub, Child Development Centre 3820 24 Avenue Northwest Calgary, AB, • T3B 2X9 Canada (map)

Researchers have identified the co-occurrence of gender diversity and autism as an important emerging issue in terms of clinical practice. Parents, clinicians, and educators, and support professionals in the fields of autism and gender are increasingly likely to encounter clients, patients, and families working to understand gender diversity and autism simultaneously. This workshop will share current findings and perspectives on gender diversity for individuals on the autism spectrum and will present evidence-informed practices for supporting gender creative children and transgender youth who are also on the autism spectrum.

Level I: This session presents an overview of gender diversity and autism and would best meet the needs of families and/or professionals with little to no knowledge of, or experience with this topic.
